HTTPS Access to WebCATS or eCenter Direct is Now Available
Good things come to those who wait! Last week, Softshare finished moving the last Softshare 'CATS server to its new home at a secure co-location facility. Although the move took longer than expected, it went smoothly and was well worth our while (and yours) as several benefits resulted from the move:
- Softshare took the opportunity to upgrade all server machines; you should see a noticeable improvement in WebCATS' performance.
- Softshare added support for HTTPS access (secure HTTP) to your WebCATS and eCenter Web sites. HTTPS security ensures privacy of communications between your browser and the Softshare 'CATS server. All you need to do to secure your WebCATS sessions from here on out is access WebCATS via an HTTPS URL. For example, if you previously accessed WebCATS at http://mycenter.softshare.com, simply access it at https://mycenter.softshare.com instead. For the time being, we will support both HTTP and HTTPS access to WebCATS and eCenter, but we encourage you (and all other users) to begin using the HTTPS URL exclusively so that we may discontinue HTTP access by the end of the year.
- All hosted databases are now on the latest and greatest version of WebCATS (build 421). This means that you all have access to the features mentioned in this issue's Hidden Features of Builds 420 and 421 article, as well as the option of purchasing the Custom Activity Forms module.
