Throughout the holidays, we toast to the good health of friends and family. With a ringing “Salud!” in Spain, a lively “Proost” in the Netherlands, and a heartfelt “Gesondheid” in South Africa, the wish for good health is universally uttered and shared.
And no organization has worked more tirelessly toward the goal of good health than Direct Relief International. For 60 years, this dedicated not-for-profit has provided medical assistance at home and abroad to people affected by poverty, disaster, and civil unrest. In addition to ongoing programs that combat HIV/AIDS, childhood blindness, and the vicious cycle of poverty and poor health, Direct Relief International responds to emergencies around the world.
In 2008 alone, Direct Relief International was on the ground providing life-saving medical attention for the victims of the Myanmar cyclone; the China earthquake; hurricanes Dolly, Gustav, and Ike; the Pakistan earthquake; Kenyan civil strife; and two wildfires in Softshare’s own backyard. Needless to say, Softshare is inspired. That’s why, this holiday season, Softshare is continuing its three-year tradition of redirecting the paper, postage, and handling costs associated with holiday cards to an important cause.
